Welcome to my humble internet abode!
You may be thinking, “What in the world…’Think & Grow Chick’?!?!?…just what is all of this about…?”
Glad you asked.
Think & Grow Chick was birthed in August 2009 as a way to organize my various pursuits and goals. That summer, I had just returned from an entrepreneurship conference where I sat in on a presentation from a life coach who described her journey of achieving all of her goals. Her presentation was centered around the book Think & Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill, a book published in 1937 by a man who dedicated his career to studying America’s most successful people for over 20 years.
According to the life coach, this book taught her a single, simple formula for accomplishing anything in life:
- Fix in your mind exactly what it is you desire
- Determine what you intend to give in exchange for what you desire
- Establish a definite time for when you intend to possess what it is you desire
- Create a definite plan
- Write out a statement for what it is you want and the time limit for its acquisition
- Read their written statement aloud twice daily
Needless to say, when I left the conference, I was completely inspired. The above “formula” inspired me not only to attain wealth, but more importantly, it inspired me to achieve all of the goals I had for myself at the time, whether they were big or small. Creating a blog was to be a unique way for me to have a clear, concise “diary” of all of the things I was attempting while simultaneously sharing it with others and thus, having some accountability.
Since becoming a “Think & Grow Chick” that fateful day in August 2009, this blog has blossomed into a wonderful community of like-minded young women (and some men!) who are interested in improving themselves on various levels. As a 20-something African-American woman with primarily African-American women readers, most of the goals and experiences shared on this blog have to do with things specific to the “black girl” experience, but I would hope that readers from all backgrounds can find something useful.
Although I seem to think of new things everyday to try and accomplish, my “core” goals continue to revolve around personal development, natural hair care, financial management, wellness (food and fitness), and entrepreneurship. Below are some of my favorite posts on the various topics:
